Location

The Conference will be held at the Faculty of Educational Studies, situated in the former convent of S. Agostino.

University of Bergamo, Faculty of Educational Studies, Piazzale Sant’Agostino, 2 24129 Bergamo, Italy

The convent was built within the defensive walls of the medieval part of the town, locally known as “Città Alta”. The name “Città Alta” (Italian for “Upper Town”) is due to its elevated position on top of a hill.

Traveling

How to get to Bergamo

  1. By plane, landing in Bergamo. Several low-cost carriers land in Bergamo Orio al Serio airport, sometimes advertised as Milan-Orio al Serio, or Milan-BGY; from there you can take an ATB bus to the city center (Upper Town included) for € 1.70, or a short taxi ride (approx. € 15). The ATB bus stops very near to the conference location (ask the driver info about the bus stop near Sant’Agostino).

  2. By plane, landing in Milan Linate Bus or taxi to Milano Centrale train station (takes 20 mins), then train to Bergamo. Then follow instruction at point 4.

  3. By plane, landing in Milan Malpensa From Malpensa there are three main ways to get to Bergamo.

    1. bus: Malpensa Bus Express or Malpensa Shuttle Air Pullman (Terminale 1; the same buses also call at Terminal 2): buy tickets from the driver standing by the door of the next bus to leave; buses leave every 20 mins from 6 to midnight every day for Milano Centrale (takes 50 mins; check that it goes to Milano Centrale not to Milano Cadorna train station). Cost: € 5,50 or 6,00. Then follow instruction at point 4.

    2. train (Malpensa Express): this route is not advised unless you have to go to Milano Cadorna train station or there are no other options. Catch the Malpensa Express train (leaves every half hour, one-way ticket costs € 11) and get off at the terminal station, that is Milano Cadorna. From there you can follow the underground railway sign (“Metro”) and board a green line train heading to either “Gessate” or “Cologno Nord”. Tickets are single-fared (€ 1) and can be purchased at newsstands (just say “un biglietto”) or at vending machines. Get off at Centrale FS, the Milano Centrale train station. Then follow instruction at point 4.

    3. taxi: quite expensive as the airport is some way out: around € 50/60 to get to Milano Centrale train station. Then follow instruction at point 4.

  4. By train, from Milano Centrale train station Trains run every hour from Milano Centrale to Bergamo from 7.20 to 23.40 (except for a gap between 8.43 and 11.20); for more detailed information, see the Trenitalia web-site (English version available). Cost: € 4.10 (€ 6.10 1st class) – train tickets are probably the best bargains in Italy.
